DEAFinitely Taking Requests (DTR) opened it doors on August 19, 2002 in Columbia, South Carolina. We do our best to ensure that effective communication takes place between the deaf and hard of hearing communities and the providers who service them. Our office staff is comprised of four full time employees and four permanent part time employees. DTR also employs approximately thirteen regular part time employees and partners with several agencies to fulfill interpreting needs in South Carolina and Eastern Georgia.
DTR is family owned and operated by Glendia Boon and her eldest daughter, Tynisha Walker. Glendia brings over 30 years of experience in the interpreting field. She received her training from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. Glendia became certified in 1984. She loves working within the deaf and hard of hearing communities as this was the first community she had ever known with both of her parents being deaf. Glendia also loves mentoring students of interpreting. Her goal is to continue to provide quality interpreting services within the community.
Tynisha Walker graduated from University of Phoenix with a bachelor's of science in Management. She brings over 15 years of customer service experience in the retail, food, and insurance industries. She has a passion for helping people and growing DTR to it's fullest potential so it can be around for years to come. Tynisha is excited to continue strengthening the relationship between the hearing and deaf communities by providing quality interpreting services.
In honor of celebrating fifteen years in business, Mayor Stephen K Benjamin declared August 26, 2017 as DEAFinitely Taking Requests Day! Glendia and Tynisha would like to thank all of their staff (past and present), the deaf community and our faithful customers for the many years of support.
